Zelig Williams’ loved ones are experiencing every family’s worst nightmare.
More than one week after the Broadway dancer, who has appeared in hit shows such as Hamilton, went missing in his hometown of Columbia, South Carolina, those closest to the performer are holding out hope they’ll reunite with him soon.
“It is very, very difficult,” relative Mieoki Corbett Jacobs told NBC News Oct. 14. “It is a struggle, but they are holding close to the belief that Zelig will return home.”
Zelig, 28, had been spending the summer with his mom Kathy Williams while he hosted dance workshops in his hometown. While Kathy, per her cousin Mieoki, said Zelig appeared normal on Oct. 3, the day he was last seen, a friend later received an SOS alert to her phone suggesting he had been in a car accident.
Two days later, according to Mieoki, the car was found by police in a lot—but did not show signs of being in any accident. Zelig’s mother urged community members to reach out to the Richland County Sheriff’s Department with any tips and to be aware that her son requires medication and could be in a vulnerable state when found.
“And please keep sharing on social media,” Kathy told NBC News. “And don’t just like it. Share it far and wide, share it with all the people that they know, because it will spread even more.”
E! News has reached out to the Richland County Sheriff's Department for updates on the search for Zelig and has not heard back.
Hugh Jackman, who starred alongside Zelig in his 2019 tour The Man. The Music. The Show., posted a plea to fans on his Instagram Stories.
“Please ... if anyone has any information as to the whereabouts of ZELIG WILLIAMS, please reach out to your local authorities,” Hugh wrote over a photo of the dancer. “ZELIG, we love you and are praying for your safe return.”
Zelig’s last post to his own personal Instagram account was celebrating his 28th birthday on Sept. 11.
“28 only feels like a new thing because 27 I gave my full yes to Christ,” he wrote at the time. “This yes is a daily yes. Yes, I’ll follow you. Yes, I’ll stop following my old ways. Yes, I’ll praise you. Yes, I’ll change this and that. Yes, I’ll listen. Yes, I’ll let go. I only say yes because of His goodness and love for me. He is unmatched. Thank you, Jesus for being good to me this year and keeping me in all my ways. Also thank y’all for the B-Day love.”
